First the deadly tornadoes that cut a swatch through many of our southern states and then the wedding of the century.
The death toll from the tornadoes is expected to reach over 400. This brought back memories for me of the year that my daughter was in the first grade. I was at home with my son who at that time was 3 years old. It was 12:30 and As the World Turns was on TV. The program was interrupted to give a tornado warning for my little town. I foolishly stood at my back door watching the tornado coming. It went down a street on the east side of town and leveled the houses on the right side of the block. Nothing to compare with the devastation of this week’s tornadoes but it has remained fresh in my mind all these many years. I was talking to my daughter and she remembered this. The tornado struck just a few blocks from her grade school. She remembers the teacher having them get under their desks as it was storming. My thoughts and prayers are with all of those who lost loved ones and property.
I watched bits and pieces of the wedding. It was lovely. I thought how very much William looks like his mother and how much I didn’t like looking at Camilla and Charles. I loved the image of the little girl with her face all scrunched up and holding her hands over her ears. That was priceless. I hope this is a forever, till death do us part marriage. They have had a few years practice so they should be able to make it. I pray that they do.
I think I am going out to check out Bergner’s this morning and see what they have on sale. I am needing some new summer tops. I looked in Kohl’s the other day. I couldn’t believe how ugly the summer tops are. I think I will stick to t’s.
I hope you are all having a good weekend. Stay safe and be happy!
Beth
Good morning, Beth. It's a lovely sunny Saturday and a Blessing to be here to read. I always think of our friends as well when I hear of bad weather in their area. I have seen on the news channels from folks who give God the credit for their safety as they should.
ReplyDeleteI saw a little of the wedding, not caring about it actually. I hope they have a long happy life together.
Have fun shopping.
Good morning Beth. It has been some week for history. Let's hope sunny days and happiness are ahead with pretty summer tops that don't look like granmaws drapes ;-/
ReplyDeleteI have never seen a tornado, but I am terrified of them. It must be such a helpless feeling. So many people are missing and I cringe at the thought of not knowing where my family is and thinking that the worst might have happened. We all need to keep praying and praying.
ReplyDeleteI watched the royal wedding (fast forwarding past Prince Charles and Camilla) I thought I heard some booing when they got out of the car but then again it may have been just wishful thinking on my part...I can't help it. I kept thinking that Diana should have been there and how beautiful her face would have been as she watched her oldest get married. Blessings, Joanne
Thank goodness you made it through (so far) without having to deal directly with a tornado. Hope things calm down weatherwise for you guys. I didn't see any of the wedding, just pictures afterwards---wow, those hats were something! I too hope their marriage lasts...they seldom do these days, but we can hope. Enjoy the weekend!
ReplyDeleteI do hope things calm down across the pond , there is always something going on these days. I watched the wedding and I thought the dress was beautiful and not a crease in sight. As Camilla got out of the car she turned and looked at the crowd with not a lot of response, and then trotted off. Take care and safe Beth Hugs Sheila xx
ReplyDeleteI watched part of the wedding. Got up at 0625 and so it was 0640 before I turned on the TV having forgotten about the wedding so I got to see right after the saying of vows. I enjoyed the hour or so I spent sitting there. I saw them leave of course and the balcony scene.
ReplyDeleteI too dislike looking at his Dad and Camilla. I really don't care at all for her and even her appearance is hard to take. That was unkind of me I know.
I think William looks tremendously like his mom. And his glancing upward thru his eyelashes..totally Dianna. I wish them good fortune in their marriage. I think they'll make it. I really do.
When I was in missile school at Sheppard AFB, Texas a twister touched down on the flight line and moved right down the middle of a 6 lane company street until it hit and destroyed the base personnel office. Some of my fellow airmen were amazed that it rattled me the way it did since I came from a coastal city prone to hurricanes and nor'easters. I pointed out that our weather guessers tracked those storms for a week or so and you have plenty of time to prepare but tornadoes hit with almost no notice.
ReplyDeleteHi Beth, catching up, as usual, interesting post, also as usual,!
ReplyDeleteIt must have been pretty scary seeing the damage that tornado did, and bet the experience never leaves you. It id so tragic for the people who have lost their lives so far in this current bout. Pray that they will soon blow themselves out.
I agree about the wedding, it was lovely, and I think your feelings on Cam and Charles are the same as mine [as per my blog] people have short memories.
Keep safe.
Scary and overwhelming! Very intense, with all of the suffering, destruction and power of the storms. It's time to be in awe of the display of human heroism, of strange quirks of fate, of a reminder of what is truly important, and how we are part of something much bigger than ourselves. I am considering giving to the Red Cross today, to help out in any way that I can.
ReplyDeleteI hope that you are enjoying a good Saturday and that your Sunday will be just as enjoyable if not more. Enjoy your weekend.
There's no better time than the present to stop by and wish you awonderful weekend. Make the most of it, Monday comes fast.

I watched the royal wedding as same time I have has complexed feeling of other royal families
ReplyDeleteand I feel sorry for them too.
But I wish William and Kate will successful their happy marriage as you said they have had few years practice:-)
Hope you will find your summer top soon.
Have a nice weekend.
Nobody forgets a tornado when they see it especially if it's close enough to hear. The F-3 that did so much damage here last year is still fresh in our mind because it was close enough to hear for us..that and large hail left lots of damaged houses...nothing compared to the recent storms of course. I think it is a horrible start to the tornado season to say the least.
ReplyDeleteThey are a lovely couple and I do pray it's a forever kind of marriage.
ReplyDeleteI remember a torndo that went through here years ago and standing outside looking for it. Dumb. It too the roof off the gym of the school where I worked, an damage a coupe houses. Sherry's bil or his neighgbor had the camper moved from one side of the driveway to the other and some damage to there roof. May have to tell about that experience.
Mother nature certainly can be brutal but she does have her good days too, I guess we shouldn`t take them for granted. Eh?!
ReplyDeleteAs far as the young Royal couple/wedding goes, I think it's wonderful, and congratulations to them! I wish for them a long happy and blessed marriage. I think that they are both more down to earth than some of the Royals. I`ll just keep the rest of my comments to myself, there`s much that I can appreciate about the monarchy and much I don`t. Never the less, as a Canadian... they are our Royals and I`ll give them that much respect.
Believe it or not, I stayed up all night to watch the Rpyal wedding...They do look like a very loving couple. I too loved the photos of the girls with their faces scrunched up, but also I caught a glimpse of Harry taking peeks at bot Kate and her sister...Precious!
ReplyDeleteI feel the same way about Charles and Camilla!
Shame about the tornados and all the devastation and death they caused....made me cry to see some of those families who had lost so much!
