I am an Elvis Fan. I remember the day he died, 16 August 1977 exactly 34 years ago today. I am a huge fan of his music, not of his movies because I thought they were kind of silly. Just my opinion, I tolerated them though because he was so good looking. I remember that on 16 Aug 1977 I was sunbathing when I learned of his death, something I wish now that I had never done. His death staggered me. I remember thinking, Elvis is dead and I am only mortal. The fact that Elvis had taken such poor care of himself and was grossly overweight also hit home with me. One reason now while in my ‘golden’ years I try to exercise daily.
And so today I remember Elvis, and I am so very sorry that he left the building prematurely.

Yesterday my daughter and I headed 10 miles to the east to Farm and Fleet. I love that store. It is laid out almost exactly like the one in Champaign where Jim and I used to shop. They have everything there, even clothing by Alfred Dunner. I found a lovely light beige shell on sale for $9.74. I have been needing a neutral colored shell to go with some jackets that I have. Then, in the afternoon mail I received a package from my sis with two shells in it. They are beautiful. Thanks Rae!
Then we stopped by Cracker Barrel for lunch. Bad experience. We were waiting for a long time just to be waited on which was ridiculous as there was hardly anyone in there. We ordered potato soup and a chicken sandwich. The waitress said that she would be right out with the soup. Twenty minutes later I hollered at a bus person asking for our waitress who never showed up. A few minutes later our sandwiches were carried out and still no soup. Add another 10 minutes and here came our waitress with the soup. I told her that I had planned to have the soup digested before the sandwiches came. The food was pretty good, the service was terrible, so if you happen to be on I 74 near Morton IL., don’t stop at the Cracker Barrel unless you have lots of time to spare.
Today I definitely am going to clean. I have already done a load of laundry and I have some things I need to press with the iron. Yuck! I hate that almost as bad as cleaning the bathroom
Enjoy today, there will never be another one just exactly like it. Stay safe and be happy!!
Beth
Elvis. They just don't make them any better. I think he could have made better movies, but the colonel was adamant about doing them this way. I read where some critics say he could have been a terrific actor if he hadn't been held back.
ReplyDeleteFarm and Fleet is one of my favorite stores here too. The Cracker Barrell here is not far from it but I've never had the kind of trouble you had. Hope you sending a complaint to the manager.
Now don't overdo the cleaning sis. Remember, it will wait for you and you back will feel much better. :)
I saw your post about Elvis on 10 minutes 2 breathe and hopped over here to say HI! My hubby and I had a similar experience in TN at a Cracker Barrel when we really needed a QUICK meal! We actually waited patiently and NEVER got waited on! lol We never eat at any of them now! ♥ Love your blog! ♥
ReplyDeleteI was only six years old when Elvis died so he and his music never really made much of an impression on me however the message about our own mortality is certainly a them we can all understand. I can sure sympathize with the poor service at the restaurant. I've seen that before and it really does ruin things doesn't it? I'm going to exercise today then go to the church to practice for the album we're working on. Have a great day my friend.
ReplyDeleteyou know MY experience with Cracker Barrel. We traded horror stories on the yelly-o-fone.

One of my dance friends is a great Elvis fan, went to the States and visited Gracelands, he never made much impression on me Nat Cole was my type of singer.
ReplyDeleteWhat a rotten experience at the diner, it would almost make you want to do a Ghandi [fast] lol
Thanks for visiting, and about the beetle, they are becoming quite rare due to the tidyness of gardens and lack of habitat, that's why i leave some dead wood and stuff to rot behind and under shrubs.
I meant to say, I liked your new background, Time for a change for me I think.
ReplyDeleteOh goodness I would be so upset about the soup, hope they at least compted you for it!
ReplyDeleteyeah to the shell's in the mail!!!
Elvis truly is the legend :)
Wow you brought back memories. I remember that day too. I used to have an Elvis mug I drank out of all the time. It had a saying on it. " It's no secret what God can do, and I believe there will be peace in the valley some day, so take my hand precious Lord and lead me home"
ReplyDeleteI used to read that and then hear him singing Glory Glory Alleluia.
My mom left the building the on the same day as Elvis, only she left in 1997.
ReplyDeleteFarm & Fleet is a favorite of ours too. If they don't have it, you don't need it!
It was a shame the way Elvis went. I like his music but not the films. You would think in these times that people would make more of an effort if for no other reason than to safe guard their jobs.
ReplyDeleteWhat a shame! Cracker Barrel's has a bad service but a food was good, hope next time you will get a good service.
ReplyDeletePlease remember your BACK "don't do too much work".
you would be sorry Beth!!

We were in the car on a outing as a family, I was shocked and mom cried when the guy on the radio said Elvis was Dead. We could not believe what we were hearing. Mom loved his singing as did other members of my family. It was just a tragic waste of a wonderful talent, because of Addiction. Such a shame. Have a wonderful rest of your week Sis!
ReplyDeleteI also remember the day Elvis died, because it was my brothers birthday....
