Haddad’s Market in West Peoria…

burned to the ground on New Year’s Eve 2010.  It has been rebuilt thanks to the support of the community.  The planned reopening date is shortly after Thanksgiving.  37 of the previous employees will resume their previous positions.  A job fair was held on the grounds at Haddad’s on Monday.  Over 450 people responded to fill out applications to fill 10 – 12 positions; 7 full time and the rest part time.

This speaks as to how desperate people are for jobs here and all across the country.  One 55 year old man that has been out of work for over 2 years stated that he would do anything, he didn’t care what was involved.  It is so sad the state our economy is in.  I thank God each day that I am blessed to have  a retirement and good health insurance.

The weather has been near perfect the last couple of days although it is supposed to be much colder today.  Temps to fall to upper 30s or lower 40s by Thursday night.

I feel really remiss that I forgot to mention 12 September was the 80th birthday of my favorite classic country singer of all time, George Jones.  For many years I belonged to his fan club.  When Jim became ill was when I let the membership lapse.  Just too many things for me to keep up with.  I have seen Jones in concert many times including his final concert with Tammy Wynette titled ‘One.’ I even have a picture hidden away somewhere of me giving old George a hug.  I have  about 130 of his CDs and lots of autographed pictures of him.  One of these days I am going to list it all on Craig’s List.

This is not a very good picture of George Jones.  It was taken backstage at a concert in Ashland Kentucky.  I was next in line to get my picture taken with George.  I am still looking for that picture.

I need to get a move on.  My tune woke me up this morning at 6 AM.  I went back to sleep till 6:30.  Now it is time for breakfast.  I haven’t had my workout yet either and I need to go to the grocery store.  You all stay safe and be happy!!

  1. I've been up to photograph a sunflower face. Rather late in the day, 1015 hrs but a phone call had delayed me. Done 1 set of exercises and as soon as I look at these pictures in the camera I am off to the treadmill. xoxoxox

  2. I keep forgetting to say how much I love the fall tree on your header!
It is a shame how many people are out of work. Breaks your heart. I'm glad they rebuilt after the fire. It least there will be work for some. :)
George Jones is 80! I remember my uncle playing his songs all the time when I was a kid (my uncle played steel guitar in a band when he was young and used to drive all the way from Minnesota to Nashville and back over a weekend to hang around at the Grand Ole Opry). Happy birthday to George! :)

  5. 130 cd's of just one artist! That's amazing!
Oh by the way can you pick me up a half gallon of milk while you're at the market. One percent please.

  7. Folks are really hurting here where jobs are either scarce or minimum wage with no benefits. It took me nearly 5 months and over 150 resumes and applications to get three interviews and I was told the same things: 1) You're over qualified 2) We can't pay what you made in Virginia Beach. What they couldn't get away with saying but really meant was "You're over 50 and have a couple of medical problems" (this was before my accident). Thank God I had disability insurance and found a good disability law firm when I got hurt at home a little over a year after finding a job (on the Internet!). Frankie landed a good job and between her pay, my Social Security and VA medical care we're doing okay. I don't know how some folks are getting by around here.

  8. I've never been a member of any Fan Club Beth, but I used to love listening to the Country Music channel 'til the cable subscription changed and it wasn't included in my package. I miss it a lot as I was able to keep up with all the country and western singers. We're experiencing more and more Unemployment here too, it's so soul destroying to be out of work and have to root around for the money to keep your head above water. They (the politicians) say we have to spend to get out of recession but how can we do that if there's no money coming in? Madness... They seem to think people have money in savings, as if anyone is tempted to save with the interest so low, that's even supposing you have any extra left after every month of higher and higher bills. I am so sorry, I seem to be on a 'moan' day today. But it's not all bad as the suns showing it's face and the winds have dropped to a slight breeze. Take care my friend across the water. xPenx

  9. I can hardly believe we're looking at temperatures in the forties at night now as it is. The thing I think that's as hard as cold for me is things getting dark so darn quickly...insult to injury in my opinion...but then again maybe I'm cranky from an awful winter last time around. I saw that job numbers were horrible yet again...I expect that about the time some of the politicians start losing their jobs they might start to care about such things.

  10. Glad the temperature there is getting better! It's been really cool and rainy here.

It just is so sad how many ppl will apply and are in the need for a job. I know when Rick applied for his previous job 500 ppl applied for the one opening. I'm so blessed to have a job that I can work from home and have flexibility to run the kids. Sadly no health insurance but hey I take what I can get :)

  11. Hi beth, thanks for following my blog. It's sad to think of all those people chasing after so few jobs. For Americans, a major issue seems always to be health insurance, that would terrify me. We moan about the NHS, and it is far from perfect, but it is such a relief to have it. I see you are counting your blessings, me too. Wow.

Call me ignorant, but I hadn't heard of George. Thanks for the music, it's great.
