No problem…

You know, I really dislike that phrase.  Whatever happened to saying  ‘you’re welcome’ after someone thanks you for something.  No reason for my saying this;  it is just that I heard one too many ‘no problems’ today and it  struck me wrong.

It is warmer today checking in right now at 31 degrees.  After I went to Kroger this morning I was able to finally get the rest of the ice and snow off my car.  Bird poopiedoo (made up word from my own dictionary) now that is another problem.

I really hate leaving my car out in the weather.  My car is 10 years old and for the first  7 and 1/2 years it sat lovingly in my garage at home.  I kept it washed and waxed, always kept the gas tank full and never said an unkind word to it.  Since I moved here and it has had to sit out in the heat, cold, ice and snow it has been mad at me.  It has paid me back by costing me several thousand dollars in repair bills.  But I still love my car.  I remember the day that Jim and I picked it out.

I am in the mood to start Spring housecleaning but the energy is not there.  I am working on that however.  I am glad the middle of the week holidays are over as they are worse than a Monday holiday.  January 14 is the next Monday holiday and the way time flies by it will be here before I turn around good.

All for today.  Batten down the hatches, I am on my way to visit you all.  A cup of tea would be nice with a spoonful of honey.

******************************
American Heritage Dictionary of Idioms:

batten down the hatches

Prepare for trouble, as in Here comes the boss--batten down the hatches. This term originated in the navy, where it signified preparing for a storm by fastening down canvas over doorways and hatches (openings) with strips of wood called battens. [Late 1800s]

******************************

Be kind to those you come in contact with today,  Do something nice for them and don’t cringe when they say ‘no problem.’  Above all, stay safe and be happy!!

Beth

  3. I don't like the phrase "no problem" either, Beth. But it seems to have replaced "you're welcome".
I hope your car doesn't give you any more problems.
    Have a good day!

  4. The waitresses at our local diner say No problem and it drives us crazy.
Tea with honey sounds very good to me. Enjoy!

  5. Now that you bring this up, I realize that 'no problem' was the norm back home. Here it is 'you are welcome' along with full first name and NO nicknames.
Tea and honey does sound good. You may have to get a cover for your car. But it probably is a pain to take off an put on.

  6. Hi Beth,

Thinking about it I don't think I am keen on that response either, you are welcome is much nicer.

What you said about your car paying you back, made me smile, but it is not funny to get a lot of bills.

    Hugs Nita

  7. I am not a tea drinker...maybe a nice cup of hot chocolate for me! I agree with you about "no problem." I am going to make a conscious effort not to answer that way this year..."you're welcome" sounds much better! Thanks for sharing. Have a great day!

  9. I'm so glad we now have a garage where I can keep my car. It used to sit out, and I hated having to scrape away the ice and snow all winter. I hope you enjoy your day!

  10. The only time we had a garage to keep the car in was when we rented right after we got married. So the ones we've had since don't know any better, lol. Not much for tea, but do try it now and again. Trying to aquire a taste. Keep warm and cozy.

  20. I'm just now taking down all the Christmas decorations--a major chore around here. It makes my husband quite cranky! Sooner or later I'll get into the Spring cleaning.....

  21. I agree...and I am afraid I find myself uttering those same words from time to time. Shame on me! I'm also so tired of saying "Excuse Me" while shopping and people not even acknowledging my good manners. It won't stop me though!

  22. Some of us cherish out cars, mine is old sat in the garage for years but kept well, then when my mother passes away I know wouldn't be with out it, plus I also have my father's car to use which I do which is much newer than mine..
Oh that snow!! can't imagine having to go outside and move snow..I wonder what happens to those people who unable to move it but can drive?
Spring cleaning in winter, not a bad idea, it only has to be done once or twice a year and really good clean, and I am a believer in doing it when I feel like it, not when it's tradition :) Have fun and take care.

  24. Since we head south till almost April I have to start my spring cleaning now. Got all my floors washed today. Hubby had to help. As it was way too much for me to do in one day. Got all the Christmas decorations all packed away. I hate trying to get all the cleaning done right after Christmas. But if it doesn't get done now it won't get done when we get back as then the outdoor gardening starts and I get nothing done in the house. Well hope your car doesn't give you anymore trouble this winter. Hugs Carrie

  25. Hi Beth!! This is a good time of the year for staying in and being cozy. Spring cleaning can wait :)) At least that's what I tell myself :))

  26. I don't mind the No Problem reply, too just like Far Side of Fifty. What I don't like is when people forget to say the three important sentences: Please. Sorry. Thank you. at the right instances.

My first time to visit here. Happy New Year, Beth!
