What is baloney and..

the countdown to spring which stands today at 68 days.

You all see me mention baloney many times in my blog.  I have to confess that the references to baloney are an inside joke between several of my blogging friends and I that goes back several years.  (Did I say that correctly should I have said me?  I used to ponder that question a lot when I proofed and corrected officer performance reports in years gone by.)  I even had one of my readers ask what baloney was.

baloney

Baloney is actually a slang term for bologna.  I never buy baloney even when we are under a severe winter weather warning because it is loaded with a lot of salt and fat.  I do like it fried in a pan and put in a sandwich with cheese.  And now I promise that the next time I go to the store I will buy some baloney.

And this post has been a bunch of baloney.  LOL!!

  5. Mom used to make us sandwiches out of it..I haven't had any since I was a kid. It's way too fat and salty as you said. I prefer Tuna and eat that often. Hope you have a DRY day there. Roads are slick here with rain turning snow into icy slush. Cannot wait for Spring..have a feeling it will be late this year darn it. Take care Prayers to you always XoXo

  6. I love bologna but I don't buy it. For the reasons you mentioned.

    I struggle with the "me and I" as well and as we have several teachers as blogger friends, maybe they can tell us both. Heck, I could ask Bruce, my son. He is a teacher after all. xoxoxo

  8. A bit of grammar information. The pronoun "I" is used as the subject of a sentence. The pronoun "me" is correctly used as the object; therefore, usually appearing in the predicate. In the case above, the correct choice would be "me." Lesson for the day!

    Yes, bologna is loaded with fat and salt - plus other preservatives, probably. While I remember eating it as a child pan-fried, we haven't had any here in years and years!

  10. Yikes, I'm not sure if my first two comments went thru or not Beth. About baloney - I know both terms and use them myself. It might be a midwest thing or maybe not. Anyway. I have to laugh when I see it used because it looks so normal to me. I tend to forget the proper name - balogna!

  11. Well we love Ring Bologna! It's all spelled that way. Some varieties are garlic, jalapeno, beef, turkey, and others. The true German style which is naturally smoked and fully cooked doesn't have as much the bad stuff.

  25. I think the correct word in your sentence would have been 'myself'.

    I have to keep bologna out of the house. It's the salt...you have me craving it right now! I used to fry it for the kids when they were young...we called them Mexican Hats because of the way they puffed up. Oh, I'm really craving it now, but I know it's super bad for you.

  26. Thinking of you tonight, and hoping you'll have a nice relaxing Sunday. We don't eat red meat or pork any more although if a friend invites us to dinner I'll eat their ham or bacon. My husband won't. I haven't had bologna for years, and don't really miss it. But I do miss bacon so sometime when out with a friend I'll have a BLT. I enjoyed your message today. Bertie

  30. As a kid I ate that with Ketchup and toasted it.I still like it to this day but don't buy it. . It is fatty and salty for people with heart problems. Or any disease.

  33. As you know I deal with the stuff. I don't eat it anymore but I do confess to really liking a particular baloney with Land O Lakes American cheese.
    The baloney is loaded with fat and salt but the Land O Lakes cheese has as much if not more salt than the baloney. American cheese in general has the most salt of any sandwich cheese. Anywhere from 350-400 mil. of salt per ounce. That's about a one inch square piece of cheese. It's not officially considered cheese. It's a pasteurized cheese food product. Swiss is naturally low in sodium. About 60-75 mil. of salt per ounce.
