Tropical Heat Wave…

Right now the temperature stands at 6 degrees.  That is 16 degrees warmer than it was yesterday at this time.  I walked to the laundry room without a coat this morning.  The countdown till Spring stands at 36 days.  The temp tomorrow is predicted to reach 30 degrees and one day next week it is to hit 40.  It will be flooding here if it warms up.  If it will get rid of the snow I am all for it.

Other than laundry I am planning to tidy my house a bit.  Not sure what I will cook today.   I still haven’t cleaned the bottom shelf of the freezer.  Maybe I will do that too and see what I have in there.

And now for the local news,  A major water main break in Peoria has caused a lot of problems for the city as it affected quite a large area leaving them with no water and issuing a boil order for other parts of the city,   Here in Pekin the hospital laid off several employees and cut the hours to 30 for a good number of other employees to get out of paying them benefits.  The governor’s race for this coming November has heated up nicely and there is a lot of political poopiedoop flying around.  We have had so many days this winter where the kids have been out of school because of the weather that classes will be held here until well into June.  I bet the kids are not liking that one bit.  And that is the local news for today.  Tune in next week for an update.

I hope the sun is shining where you are today.  Stay safe and be happy!!

  2. Well so glad it warmed up. :) I like hearing the news of what is going on in your area. Poor kids. Going to school that long would make my kids sad.

  6. Our snow began here about three hours ago, Beth, and it seems to be evaporating from the grassy areas it had covered earlier. None on the sidewalk, driveway, or street, though snow is to continue into the night. Many local places announced closures yesterday afternoon for today, but we haven't had very bad conditions here where we are.

That's bad about the water main break! Hopefully everything will be up and running properly soon!

Take care, and stay safe and warm!

  7. We're at forty-three...imagine it! Even fifties are in the forecast...we will have plenty of water lying around too. Political junk calls abound now...i get so tired of it...it's like we never leave that mode now. Bright side? Spring's approach is ever nearer!

  8. Hi Beth, Like you, I have been cleaning and doing laundry today since we are snowed in.
That is sad about the layoffs and the water outages both.
Hope you have a nice evening. I am thinking grilled cheese sandwiches for supper.

  9. The temperature's rising. It isn't surprising. Beth certainly can . . . can-can. Shame on businesses that cut people's hours to get out of providing health care. I don't care what it costs. It's better than the entire country footing the bill for all the people who had to go to emergency rooms to get any care.

    Love,
    Janie

  12. We did have a sunny day though it stayed cold. More snow is supposed to be coming tonight. 40 degrees - you will think spring has arrived. : )
We hear about water pipe breaks here on the news almost every day.

  13. I love your local news updates, Beth. And, I hate to tell you this, but there is no way that we are going to be anywhere close to Spring by the calendar date. I hope YOU are though. The water pipes broke in my daughter's neighborhood , too. One yesterday and one today. She was not thrilled. xo Diana

  14. Your 30 degF is in C - 1, that is what we would have overnight here in winter, but who knows this winter coming might be very different.

That's not good about the water, hope it's all fixed quickly and not like your window, taking ages.

Keep warm, and not that many days to go till it's springtime for you :)

  17. Miss Beth...you win the prize for describing politics as "poppiedoop!" I am thrilled you have warmed up a bit. My daughter in Atlanta is iced in for a few days. Oh Winter, winter...go away!

  20. Perfect description of politics. You really nailed it. Our school district built in a few extra days to their calendar so they only have to factor in one extra day and are doing it by adding a few minutes to the day. Hopefully we won't have anymore.
