Beautiful but cold…,

Wednesday morning in Central Illinois.  It is 19 degrees but the sun is shining brightly, and my front yard is hosting some robins and cardinals.  I heard the birds singing so prettily as I walked out my front door to go the few feet to the laundry room at 7AM.  Spring is really here!

To answer a question from my blogging friend in Tasmania.  When I  said hot of an oven I was merely referring to the fact that I thought a 425 degree oven temperature was too hot for my glass pie plate and so I set the oven for 375 degrees.

To answer a question from Vee, the X on  the properties damaged by the tornado was done using orange spray paint.  My neighbor across the street is about my age and lives alone.  She has been trying to clean the X off and has only lightened it some.  I think her garage door will have to be painted.  At least she has a new roof now but her gutter hasn’t been replaced yet.

I have a dental appointment this morning for an exam.  I have to go to the dentist for a checkup every 3 months now since the radiation.  That is truly the pits as I hate going to the dentist.

I fixed spaghetti yesterday and I used a different sauce, Classico.  As expensive as it was I thought it would really be good.  I was really disappointed so from now on it is back to the Ragu.  I always made homemade pasta sauce when my kids were small.  When I think back on all I did in those days I am amazed.  I worked a 40 hour a week job but I managed to keep my house in good shape and I thoroughly cleaned the whole house spring and fall, even down to emptying the cupboards in the kitchen and washing all of the dishes.  I wish I had 1/10th of that energy now.  Today I manage to clean the bathroom once a week.  Many times I just look around and think ‘oh well’ and grab a book and sit down and read.

I finished an old book yesterday.  ‘The Wedding’ by Dorothy Garlock.   http://www.dorothygarlock.com/books.htm  Sadly this book is no longer in print which means I got it at a garage sale last summer.  I had forgotten how much I enjoy her books.  If you haven’t read any of her books, give her a try.  I know that you won’t be disappointed.

I have to go check on my laundry now.  Have a wonderful day, listen to the birds singing and do stay safe and be happy!!

Beth

  3. Good morning, Beth. You have an early start to your laundry. Much more fun to sit with a book than to clean, in my opinion. Have a wonderful Wednesday! xo Nellie

  4. I know I feel the same way. Where did we find the time to do all we di back then. We deserve the 'just go ahead and read ' time I think. Birds have been out all over the place here. Oreo keeps trying to catch them.

  6. It's a big 37 degrees here but sadly the sun is nowhere to be seen once again today. I'm truly hooked on "Game of Thrones" right now. I'm mostly through the first book now and still have another on my Kindle...it's inevitable that I'll buy the rest of the series.

  7. So sorry for the dental appointments. Ugh. But if is for your good, you go. I love to read. I love the turning of pages. I read from my kindle sometimes, but it's not like a good old fashioned book. Have a wonderful day!

  8. Hi Beth, For the first time this year/winter it is trying to snow, as it is Spring, I hope will not try too hard or succeed. Know what you mean about the energy and cleaning etc.

  10. It's so funny you mentioned hearing the birds singing Beth! I thought the same thing yesterday as I was walking into the grocery. Isn't that a lovely spring sound? Have you tried Hunt's spaghetti sauce in a can? Really good and I never thought sauce in a can would be good. Not expensive either. Hope you have a great day darling Beth Marie!

  11. I wondered about the glass pie plate too . . . thanks!

  12. I now like Prego better than Ragu. It doesn't seem to be as acidic. As for cleaning house, if I get down I really cannot get up unless there is something to grab onto so I'm not nearly as fussy as I always was, either. Times and age change all priorities, don't they?

  13. Beth, I often wonder how in the world I ever worked, came home, cleaned , did laundry and cooked too. Of course as the girls got older they helped me plenty. Now I am wore out fixing lunch for two.LOL Hope all your appointments go well. xoxo,Susie

  14. Thank you for comment to my blog beth. I just got in. Was grocery shopping with hubby. Calls for snow again or rain some kind of yuky stuff coming.
I wanted to pick up a book so I can water paint two cards for both my girls for 25th Anniversary . I have time not till August and Sept but I also want to make some paper flowers as well. Daughter in-law and daughter a month apart. Oh you have been busy. I did allot of Spring cleaning these last two days. I had some energy in my Mom Joe. Then hubby said later today. It is Sunny did I want to go grocery shopping. I said why not. I am beat now though.. It is great Beth you can bake like you do. Your food looks so good.

and your pastry pie and all looks fab all you show. .

  15. I was talking to Mary about all that which I did with my three kids and the super clean house (except their rooms as teens) that I kept. I was like a well stoked furnace or something putting out energy without even thinking about it. xox

  16. It's no fun to think about how fast we used to be! = D

I hope that your neighbor's garage door will be painted as part of the insurance coverage. It is not easy to paint garage doors.

Hope that your dentist gave you a great report!

  17. Have you ever tried DelMonte sauce in a can? That's what I use and it is good and inexpensive too.

I'll be going to a new dentist April 1. I'm not looking forward to it either.

  18. I hope that everything is fine with you and yours. I have not been blogging and or visiting too much. My BP has been high and dizziness robs me of so much of my time that it is not even funny. Today I am hoping that my BP is better.
You do a lot of work. In spite of your own health problems you are so good about answering every one's concerns. Please take care of yourself.

  19. Hi Beth, sorry to hear that you didn't like the spaghetti sauce! I sometimes buy just a tiny can of tomato paste and add a little water, using what I need. It is easy and inexpensive and tastes pretty good. I buy the Hunt's. I have to be honest, though, I don't make pasta often, as I find it very heavy.

  20. When I don't make my own, which isn't that often these days, I like a brand called Victoria out of New York. they make a low sodium version which is what I buy. If it's available in your area I recommend.
    Ooo you said dentist!

  21. I have not heard of that author, Beth, but I jotted her name down now. I do still make my sauce from scratch and usually freeze part of it for other meals. I have not had very good luck with the purchases sauces either.

Good luck at the dentist. I know you always dread going....xo Diana

  22. It sure was cold here this morning too, but like you said, the birds were singing! I guess we can say it truly is spring in IL since the weather is so unpredictable.

  23. Thanks for the explanation :)
Spring has sprung for you, I feel it in your words.
Hope you got on ok at the dentist. I think I must be a rare person because I don't mind.

  25. Now I like Classico much better than Ragu--LOL! Different taste buds, I guess. I hope they will pay for your neighbor and repaint her garage door!
    Glad somebody has spring. ;)

  26. I too prefer to sit and read a book or paint, something I never had time to do when the girls were small, but, the house keeps much tidier and cleaner now anyway, Your spaghetti sauce sounds nice.
Hope all is OK at the dentist.
