Sunday…

and the storms are coming!  Nothing major predicted right now but after the tornado last year the word storm puts the fear of God in me.  I used to hear a tornado watch  for my area on the weather radio and I didn’t pay any attention.  I do pay attention now.

I had a very nice visit with my family yesterday.  I ate too much and celebrated by going out to Wal*Mart and buying half a dozen books.  At least now I have something to read.  I have  read almost everything on my Nook and almost cleaned out the bookcase.  I sent a box of books to my sis in WV and have a box ready for Goodwill.  I am trying to find another charity to give stuff too after learning how much the CEO of Goodwill makes each year.  http://www.bizjournals.com/portland/print-edition/2013/11/15/goodwill-ceos-salary-rises-again.html

My family is headed back home now and being a mom I will relax when the phone rings and I hear they are home safely.

So I am doing laundry and resting today as I am pretty well exhausted.  I hope you are all having a nice weekend!

Stay safe and be happy!!

Beth

  3. I hope you and others, (me too) stay safe from the storms. Mr IGH and I felt very thankful a few weeks back when we happened to be out driving in a sudden 85 mile straight line wind storm. YIKES, I was so frightened. I can't imagine what you went through a year ago . . .

  6. Just issued a tornado watch here in Mercer county MO. I am always alert and watching the skies. Being with family is wonderful. I can't wait to move near mine. You'll have to share what books you are reading. Hugs!!

  8. Hi Beth, I hope you will not have any severe weather. We have been listening to the national weather since Friday re the tornado season.
Here in our area, we like to donate books etc. to the Humane Society. They use the money made to help homeless animals.
So happy you had a good family visit and I know you will enjoy your new books. We are getting close to move-in and I will be so happy to be settled and back to blogging full time. Hope your family has a safe trip. God bless you this week.

  11. OMG! I can't believe the CEO of Goodwill made over $856,000.00 last year. Something doesn't seem right about that. Well, I do hope you stay safe during this crazy weather. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

  13. Stay safe. Daughter and family are on their way home from Chicago. She always seems to be on the road during bad weather. When Washington was hit, she was on her way from here to Morton. She kept calling me to see what was going on. I had the TV and Internet on. She had to pull off at Farmer City and wait it out. She was scared to death, as was I. If you're tired, that means you had a great time with family. Enjoy the rest of your day.

  14. it really is sad the way the CEO's reap the benefits from others generosity, I try to donate to the local church, books and things like that, they sell them at a garage type sale, I understand how you worry, I do too, my kids just left and I am so tired! Rest up and I will keep you in my prayers that the storm does not come to you,

  15. I have to admit that I love a good rain and thunderstorm. Tornadoes, however, are another thing entirely and can wreak havoc. Stay safe, Beth.

  16. We have a local charity and their proceeds go to teenage girls so that they can keep their babies. You must have a local thrift store there somewhere that is mostly volunteer run.

Glad you got some new books. I ordered that Nora Roberts Garden trilogy. I don't think I have read her before.

Get a good night's sleep. I am glad you had family visiting. xo Diana

  17. Beth...growing up in the western prairies of Illinois (North of you), we grew up getting the tornado warnings on the radio. In 1991, my sister's town of Plainfield was hit very hard. Many casualties. Her son was at daycare in a woman's home and the house was destroyed. He was airlifted to the hospital and had surgery for internal bleeding. He was just 6 years old. The little girl sitting next to him at the table having a snack didn't make it. That was SO close to home physically and in my heart. I dread every storm we get.

How nice to have your family visit...I'm the same way when mine travel...call me when you get home!!!

    XO,
    Jane

  20. Sure hope you got through the threatening weather without impact in your area. It looks as if it was AWFUL! I'm finding "Lone Wolf" by Jodi Picoult to be an interesting read. To me, it is the best I've read in a long time.

  23. I had no idea he paid himself that much money! Shameful! I'd go elsewhere, too.
Glad you had a wonderful time and have more books to read. And I hope your storms are all tornado free this year. :)

  26. Did you read what happens with a lot of the clothing we donate there and other places of that sort? They get sorted and sent over seas to be reprocessed as rags. Some of the much better clothing may get sold but the majority gets sent overseas for breaking down as rags.
